Service Technician

ESCO Group is a growing and entrepreneurial business that designs and builds machinery for the polyurethane industry. ESCO offers a broad range of foam fabrication machinery, cutting lines, engineered systems, PU meter, mix and dispensing machinery; specializing in low pressure dynamic mixing technology, filled systems, hydrophilic PU systems, as well as hot cast elastomer processing.

The Service Technician role is a full-time position based out of the Grand Rapids, Michigan location focused on evaluating and solving customer technical issues. The Service Technician will have the following primary responsibilities while also recognizing the need to remain flexible and work independently with various individuals throughout the organization.


Service Technician - Role Expectations / Responsibilities

  • Equipment installation, commissioning, and training at customer sites
  • Respond to service calls from the company's installed base with the ability to independently provide solutions
  • Work closely with sales, marketing, IT and engineering to develop training and educational materials/courses for internal use and for customers/prospects
  • Final testing, installation, and 1st piece production sign-off
  • Close interaction with engineering to support customer technical issues
  • Responsiveness to warranty claims and communication of findings in support of company continuous improvement goals
  • Ability to diffuse confrontational situations at customer locations and maintain an appropriate level of professionalism
Requirements of the position
  • 5 years experience in a plant maintenance or similar service technician role
  • Experienced in assembly, installation and maintenance of complex industrial equipment
  • Great organizational and communication skills with a focus on customer service
  • Ability and willingness to travel 75% to 90% of the time, both domestic and internationally (focus on North America) [Must have valid passport]
  • Experience with Word, Excel or similar software
  • Must have the ability to read an electrical schematic and troubleshoot using basic electrical skills
  • Understanding of PLC logic and similar machine controls and able to diagnose I/O
  • Work schedule may include extended hours and occasional weekend and night shifts
  • Must have the ability to lift, lower, push, pull, and carry objects up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to climb up/down a ladder or stairs
  • Ability to stand/sit/walk for long periods of time, twist, bend at the knees, stoop, kneel, squat, crawl, and reach for purposes of installing and maintaining equipment
  • Ability to work in hot and cold temperature extremes in typical warehouse or industrial environments
  • Ability to give and discern the various visual and audible alarms and signals for equipment startup, evacuation, and fires
  • Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle safely
  • Experience in the foam/polyurethane manufacturing industry a plus
